KUALA TERENGGANU: Come Oct 27, the best of Terengganu’s batik will be paraded at the ‘Batik Kiter Ohsem’ fashion high-tea at the Noor Arfa Craft Complex in Chendering.

The tagline translates to ‘our awesome batik’ in Malay, and will highlight Terengganu’s latest ‘hot’ authentic batik fabrics comprising Seri Terengganu pastel and Seri Chendering varieties.

The effort is part of the east coast peninsula state’s efforts to boost its ‘Visit Terengganu Year’ tourism campaign to showcase the state’s traditional attire for formal wear and leisure activities.

Complex marketing executive Wan Farhana Wan Tazilah said to further boost the fashion high-tea, the management planned to invite Permatang Pauh member of parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar, who is an avid batik promoter.

Nurul, the eldest daughter of PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as well as the party’s vice-president, already boasts her very own batik centre in Penang.

On Aug 4, Nurul opened the ‘RU:MA RE:KA’, an exhibition and sales centre for a variety of branded batik products like Ruham Gahara, Fern Batik, The Batik Boutique, Permatang Pauh Women’s project, Tanoti, Penan Women’s project, Songket Republik and Karyaneka.

“To make the event a truly Terengganu affair, all eight models – three men and five women – are anak Terengganu (local-born),” said Farhana.

She added that Seri Terengganu and Seri Chendering were the current hot trend of batik motifs which had gone viral on social media.

“The designs are suitable for all ages. Besides, they are not too costly and within the affordable reach of a vast majority,” she said.

Farhana added that the complex had roped in SRF Event Management to give the event a professional touch, as the models were expected to parade over 30 batik designs worth an estimated |RM50,000 in total.

The event, she said, was the brainchild of the complex’s husband-and-wife team of Ismanisa Itam @ Ismail as the operations manager (marketing and sales) and its managing director Wan Mohd Hafiz Wan Mohd Ariffin.
